Music review: Bigger Than Us by White Lies off the Album Ritual

I first heard this song off the video game Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit's soundtrack (review for the game coming soon, I promise).

This is the first song I've ever heard by the English indie rockers White Lies, but it's a great debut in my book. While Ritual isn't White Lies' first album, it is their most recent.

I've never listened to any other White Lies song (and you'd think I would, considering how awesome Bigger Than Us is), so I really have nothing else to compare Bigger Than Us too. I know close to nothing about the band, except that their from Britain and are amazingly awesome.

The best part of Bigger Than Us is the chorus. Epic and surreal, hearing the lead singer, Harry McVeigh, belt out the phenomenal chorus. Seriously, Bigger Than Us' chorus is so good, the rest of the song seems sort of the bad. Without the epic chorus, Bigger Than Us actually would sort of suck. The verses are weak at best, and the bridge is entirely instrumental. The chorus is so good, though, that it entirely makes up for the blisteringly sub-par rest of the song.

Also, if you're wondering what's up with the cover of the single, that's a bottle of pills used to treat Bipolar Mania . The stone is presumably one of the organic materials used in the pills.

Overall I give Bigger Than Us an 8.0 out of 10. The chorus is phenomenal, but the rest of the song is so average that it prevents it from being premier.

Here's the music video, inspired by the film ET.
